Roadmap

What's being built now, what's planned after it, the ideas for later, and every release so far.

buttery is built in phases, and each phase is a release. This page is read from ROADMAP.md in the repository, which ticks each item as it lands, so it's never behind the work. docs/BUILD_PLAN.md has every phase's acceptance checks.

Later

Ideas for after that, not promises: each becomes a release on this page once it has a plan.

  • More patterns: command palette (⌘K), file browser, chat

  • Next.js / SSR support

  • Figma library generated from tokens

Shipped

  1. 1.0.0

    The docs in the packages

Every page of the docs, the manifest and the examples ship inside the packages, so an agent reads the version it has installed with no network, and the development layout guard checks a rule or two per frame.

  2. 0.9.0

The docs site, and buttery on npm

This site, built only from buttery, with a page for every component, examples to try and search that works offline. The packages are on npm as @butteryui, and most components now come in more than one look.

  3. 0.8.0

    App kit

What a dashboard needs, from the shell and the page header to data tables, charts, settings, search and side panels.

  4. 0.7.0

    Choreography

Surfaces that change shape instead of closing and reopening: dialogs, a nav bar whose menu card morphs, and cards that open into dialogs.

  5. 0.6.0

    App patterns

Menus, selects, toasts, color pickers and the parts of an editor, put together in the Card Studio demo.

  6. 0.5.0

    Forms and text

Fields that share one layout for their label, hint and error, and sign-in and sign-up forms built from them.

  7. 0.4.0

    Controls

The first components: buttons, segmented controls, sliders and number fields, with tooltips and keycaps to sit beside them.

  8. 0.3.0

    Motion

A spring or a tween for each kind of change, presets that use them, and less motion for anyone who asks for it.

  9. 0.2.0

    Guardrails

Layout primitives that space with gaps instead of margins, and checks that fail a screen when anything overlaps, overflows or truncates without saying so.

  10. 0.1.0

    Foundation

The tokens every later release builds on, in light and dark and two densities, and the provider that applies them.
