buttery

v1.0.0

Source on GitHub

Version 1.0.0

What's new

The notes for every buttery release, newest first, with what each one brought and examples of it to try.

Each release has its notes here: its number and date, what it's for, examples of what it brought to try, its highlights and the components that arrived in it. Releases are numbered one minor version per phase of the build plan, from 0.1 to 0.9, and 1.0 is the first on npm. Each release is tagged on GitHub, where its release carries the same notes, and from 1.0 each one also lists every change from the packages' changelogs. The Roadmap has what's coming.

The docs in the packages

v1.0.0 on GitHub

Every page of the docs, the manifest and the examples ship inside the packages, so an agent reads the version it has installed with no network, and the development layout guard checks a rule or two per frame.

Header actions

A header's actions, which fold into a More menu as the header narrows, Help first.

Spring launch

No changes yet

Highlights

  • @butteryui/core ships every page of the docs as Markdown, with llms.txt and llms-full.txt, and @butteryui/react ships manifest.json, the examples as files and what the MCP server answers from, so an agent in an app reads the installed version's docs from node_modules, offline. buttery create and buttery init point an app's agents at them.
  • Stylelint fails a var(--bt-*) of a name that buttery and the project don't declare, naming the nearest token. Development warnings end with a link to the docs. An OverflowCluster in a section's actions folds and unfolds with the page.
  • LayoutGuard checks a rule or two per frame, so a check doesn't hold up what the page is doing, and the overlap rule is seven times cheaper. The agent evaluation ran its seven tasks with two coding agents, and what it found is fixed: a layout check under load no longer waits on an animation that reduced motion cut short, and a Grid with responsive columns warns when nothing above it is a size container.
0.11.0

The command line

v0.11.0 on GitHub

buttery starts an app from a template, adds a page of any kind or a component of the app's own, checks the running app's layout, and sets buttery up in an app you have.

Step picker

Numbered steps in one track; the highlight travels to the step you pick, which says it's the current one.

Step 1 of 4: Pick a size

Highlights

  • npx create-buttery my-app --template dashboard starts an app from a template in any folder, with its lint configs, Playwright specs, agent files and the MCP server in each coding agent's config. buttery add page writes any of 16 pages from buttery's patterns, wired into a dashboard app's routes and sidebar, and buttery create component starts a component on buttery's public parts.
  • buttery check runs the checks from @butteryui/test on pages of the running app, starting its dev server when it isn't running, and prints each problem once with its fix, or every one with --json. buttery doctor checks an app's setup and buttery init sets buttery up in an app you have.
  • The dashboard template has a page of every kind, and buttery_scaffold sets an example that isn't a whole page inside an AppPage or a section of a Page, so every scaffolded page has the page grammar's padding and title.

@butteryui/mcp, so coding agents look buttery up instead of guessing, and a sign-in that's also the sign-up: an email or phone number, then a one-time code, on one surface.

Checkout sign in

The sign-in step of a checkout, with what's in the bag above it; the demo's code is 135790.

Sign in to pay; a new email or phone makes your account as you go.

You'll get a code instead of a password.

Highlights

  • @butteryui/mcp gives coding agents five read-only tools over the Model Context Protocol: search, get, scaffold, lint and a layout check, on protocol 2026-07-28 and the 2025 handshake. Lint catches literal values a component's props don't take, such as gap="16px", and says what to write instead.
  • AuthFlow signs people in or up with a code sent to their email or phone, built from IdentifierField, OneTimeCodeField and the useOtpFlow hook, which work on their own too. The roastery demo and the dashboard template sign in with it.
  • The docs search finds sign-in for "login" and "passwordless", and the segmented control for "switch between".

This site, built only from buttery, with a page for every component, examples to try and search that works offline. The packages are on npm as @butteryui, and most components now come in more than one look.

Shipping questions

The shop's shipping questions, one open at a time.

Highlights

  • @butteryui/core, @butteryui/react, @butteryui/test and @butteryui/lint are on npm, released together at one version, and every docs page is Markdown at its path plus .md, with llms.txt listing them all for coding agents.
  • Sheet, Accordion, Faq, ContextMenu and the Catalog parts are new, and fields, tabs, badges, cards, tables and a dozen more take variant, size, shape or layout options, each defaulting to the look they already had.
  • expectButtery and LayoutGuard check three more things: text crowding the line under it, a word broken across lines, and controls that sit off the line beside them; checkButtery returns what they find instead of failing. pnpm new-app starts from the dashboard, editor or marketing template, which the new demos, Deckhand and the Halfmoon shop, are built on.

Choreography

v0.7.0 on GitHub

v0.5.0 on GitHub

Fields that share one layout for their label, hint and error, and sign-in and sign-up forms built from them.

New password

A new password kept in state, its rules ticked off as it's typed, and Save held back until they're all met.

  • At least 8 characters
